Turn-mill CNC Lathe

Y axis ±50 mm and driven tools. This turn-mill CNC lathe turns, mills, drills and taps a part in a single setup — Φ420 to Φ650 mm swing. Against a plain cnc lathe plus a mill, the saving is one fixture, one setting and the tolerance stack that runs between them.

TURN-MILL

One turn-mill CNC lathe, two operations

A conventional lathe turns a part, then the part travels to a mill to have its flats, keyways and cross holes cut. Every move adds a setup, a fixture and a tolerance stack. A turn-mill does both on the same spindle: the turret carries live tooling, the Y axis moves it off centre, and the part stays where it was clamped.

These three models cover it from Φ420 to Φ650 mm swing. All three share the servo turret and the Y axis; they differ in bore, bed length and tailstock.

How a turn-mill CNC lathe works

Five things separate a turn-mill from a lathe with a milling attachment. All three models take the same approach — the figures come from the manufacturer’s catalogue sheet.

THE Y AXIS

Off-centre milling

±50 mm of Y travel on all three models. Without it a live tool can only cut on the centre line; with it the tool reaches flats, keyways and cross holes anywhere across the face of the part. Flats, keyways and cross holes that would otherwise need a second operation on a lathe machine are finished in the same clamping here.

THE TURRET

12 driven stations

A servo turret indexes in 0.25 s and carries 12 stations, □25 mm square shank and Φ32 mm boring bars. 52TMSY uses the BMT45 interface, so standard driven-tool holders fit without an adapter. A driven holder in that turret can thread mill a bore, cut a keyway or drill a cross hole without the part leaving the chuck.

THE SPINDLE

C axis for orientated work

Bores run Φ45 mm (CK46Y), Φ56/65 mm (52TMSY) and Φ65/86/102 mm (600TMSY). Indexing the spindle in C turns it into a work-holding indexer, so milled features can be spaced around the part.

THE BED

One-piece casting

Every model is built on a single cast bed. Interrupted milling cuts load the bed in a way plain turning never does — a one-piece casting keeps that shock out of the finished surface.

THE TAILSTOCK

For shaft work

CK46Y has no tailstock: it is a chucking machine. 52TMSY carries 450 mm of quill travel on MT5; 600TMSY is hydraulic with 600 mm, so long shafts can be milled along their length.

THE RESULT

One setup, one tolerance stack

Every feature on the part is generated from the same clamping position, so the relationship between a turned diameter and a milled flat depends on the machine, not on a second fixture.

Turn-mill CNC lathe questions

Straight answers to what buyers ask before they place an order.

What is the difference between a turn-mill and a lathe with a milling attachment?

A milling attachment is driven by hand and cuts in one position. A turn-mill cnc lathe has a driven turret, a C axis and on these models a Y axis, so the tool is positioned and fed under programme control.

Do I need the Y axis?

If the holes and flats sit off the centre line, yes. Without Y travel a live tool can only cut on the centre line, so off-centre features become a second operation again.

Can a turn-mill replace a machining centre?

For parts that start as bar or billet and are mostly turned, often yes. For parts that are mostly milled from a block, a machining centre still wins on rigidity and tool count.

Which model takes bar work up to 65 mm?

52TMSY with its 56 or 65 mm bore, and 600TMSY above that. Both are turn-mill cnc lathe builds with a driven turret, so the choice is bore and Z travel rather than features.
